Prime Minister Narendra Modi has lauded the exceptional performance of the Indian para-athletics team at the World Para Athletics Championship held in Kobe, Japan. The team’s remarkable achievement of securing 17 medals, including six gold, marks India’s best-ever performance in the history of the championship.

In a tweet, Prime Minister Modi expressed his delight at the team’s outstanding performance, highlighting their ascent from 34th to 6th rank in just seven years. He commended the athletes for their dedication and perseverance, emphasizing the inspiring nature of their achievements.

The Indian contingent’s stellar performance saw them clinch six gold, five silver, and six bronze medals, propelling them to the sixth position in the overall medals tally. This achievement is a significant improvement from their 19th-place finish in the previous edition of the championship.

Gold medalists including Simran Sharma, Deepthi Jeevanji, Sachin Khilari, Sumit Antil, Thangavelu Mariyappan, and Ekta Bhyan showcased exceptional talent and determination in their respective events, bringing glory to the nation.

India’s success in Kobe surpasses its previous record medal haul of 10 medals achieved in the 2023 edition held in Paris.
