Legendary Climber Kami Rita Sherpa Sets New Record with 30th Everest Summit

Nepal’s mountaineering community celebrates a historic achievement as veteran climber Kami Rita Sherpa, 54, reaches the summit of Mount Everest for an unprecedented 30th time. Breaking his own record, Kami conquered the 8,849-meter peak at 7:49 am local time on May 22, according to Tashi Lakpa Sherpa, CEO of the 14 Peaks Expedition. Just 10 days prior, on May 12, he had achieved his 29th ascent.

Kami’s illustrious mountaineering career began in May 1994, when he first scaled Everest. Born on January 17, 1970, his passion for climbing ignited in 1992 as a supporting staff member on an expedition to the highest peak. Since then, he has devoted over two decades to conquering some of the world’s most challenging summits.

Aside from Everest, Kami has triumphed over formidable peaks like K2, Cho Oyu, Lhotse, and Manaslu. Last year, he made headlines by completing his 27th and 28th ascents of Everest in a single season, showcasing his unparalleled endurance and skill.

Kami Rita Sherpa’s extraordinary feat underscores not only his personal dedication but also the indomitable spirit of Nepal’s mountaineering community. As he adds another chapter to his remarkable journey, his achievements continue to inspire climbers worldwide.
