Anita Goyal, wife of Jet Airways founder Naresh Goyal, passed away on Thursday morning after battling cancer for some time. Her health had deteriorated significantly over the past few months, leading to her demise around 3 am, as reported by the Times of India.
She is survived by her husband and two children, with the funeral expected to take place in Mumbai on Thursday.
Naresh Goyal, who had been arrested by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in a money laundering case, was granted bail on humanitarian grounds to be with his ailing wife. His legal team had informed the Bombay High Court that Anita Goyal had only a few months left to live, prompting his desire to be by her side during her final days.
It’s worth noting that Naresh Goyal is also undergoing treatment for cancer himself.
The ED had arrested Goyal in September 2023 over allegations of money laundering and diverting loans amounting to Rs 538.62 crore, which were provided to Jet Airways by Canara Bank. Subsequently, Anita Goyal was arrested in November 2023 when the ED filed its chargesheet in the case. However, she was granted bail by the special court on the same day, citing her age and medical condition.
