Search Operation Initiated in Poonch, J&K After Terrorist Assault on IAF Convoy

Poonch, May 6: In Poonch, the Indian Army has launched a significant search operation in the Shahsitar area of Surankote district following a terrorist attack on an Indian Air Force (IAF) convoy. This incident, resulting in the tragic loss of one jawan and injuries to four others, has triggered heightened security measures across the region. The terrorists launched their assault on an IAF convoy over the weekend.

According to officials, the ongoing operation involves armed bulletproof vehicles patrolling the area, along with the deployment of a dog squad to inspect vehicles. The primary objective of this search operation is to track down the perpetrators responsible for the attack and ensure the safety of civilians in the vicinity.

Earlier on May 5, senior officials from the Army, police, and paramilitary forces visited Poonch to oversee a massive search operation prompted by the terrorist attack on the IAF convoy. An official statement revealed that Corps Commander of 16 Corps, ADG Jammu Zone Anand Jain, accompanied by GOC Romeo Force, IGP CRPF, and DIG RP Range, monitored the ongoing operation. Several suspects have been apprehended for further questioning, as confirmed by Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) Jammu.

The search operation, conducted with the aim of tracking down the terrorists, has seen the establishment of security checkpoints, with thorough inspections underway in the area. Additionally, additional forces from the Indian Army arrived at Jarra Wali Gali (JWG) in Poonch late Saturday night to bolster the operation.

Following the ambush in the Poonch sector, the injured personnel were promptly evacuated to the Command Hospital in Udhampur. Unfortunately, one of the injured airmen succumbed to his injuries. In response to the attack, the local Rashtriya Rifles unit initiated cordon and search operations with the assistance of the Army and police to locate the perpetrators.

Confirming the incident, the IAF released a statement via Twitter, reassuring that the targeted convoy had been secured, and an investigation into the attack was underway.
