Mehbooba Mufti Advocates for Strong Representation of J&K in Parliament

In Srinagar on April 22, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) President Mehbooba Mufti underscored the necessity for Jammu & Kashmir to have a robust representation in Parliament to counteract what she referred to as the “ill-designs” of New Delhi.

Mufti stated that the ongoing Lok Sabha election isn’t merely a contest between political parties like PDP or NC but rather a platform to amplify the voice of Jammu and Kashmir. She argued that decisions made post-August 5, 2019, were deemed “illegal” and “unconstitutional” and must be reversed. Speaking at a public rally in Bijbehara, she expressed her deep-rooted connection to the region, emphasizing that her identity extends beyond any single place.

Mufti acknowledged the challenges faced by candidates in every election but praised the overwhelming support she received across various regions, from Anantnag to Pir Pachal. She asserted that people are increasingly recognizing the need for a strong advocate who will confront the authorities in New Delhi and advocate for the concerns of Kashmir.

Regarding the post-2019 situation and the abrogation of Article 370, Mufti reiterated the stance that such actions are unacceptable to the people of Jammu and Kashmir and called for their reversal.

Responding to queries, she emphasized that the ongoing electoral battle isn’t merely between individuals like herself and Omar Abdullah but a broader effort to represent the interests of Jammu and Kashmir in New Delhi. Mufti concluded by stating that it is up to the people of Jammu & Kashmir to make the right decision when casting their votes.
