Srinagar, April 17: Ahead of the forthcoming General Election for the 05-Udhampur Parliamentary Constituency in District Ramban, stringent measures have been implemented by District Magistrate Baseer-Ul-Haq Chaudhary under section 144 of the Criminal Procedure Code (Cr.PC).
According to an order obtained by news agency Kashmir Dot Com, gatherings of five or more persons are strictly prohibited across the district, except at designated polling stations during polling hours. This step is aimed at ensuring the smooth conduct of the electoral process and averting any potential disruptions.
However, in a bid to facilitate democratic engagement, door-to-door campaigning has been permitted from April 17, 2024, commencing at 5:00 PM until April 20th at 5:00 PM. This allowance provides candidates and their campaign teams with the opportunity to directly engage with voters while adhering to the prescribed guidelines.
The polling for the General Election to the Lok Sabha 2024, for the 05-Udhampur Parliamentary constituency in Ramban district, is scheduled for April 19.
District Magistrate Baseer-Ul-Haq Chaudhary stressed the importance of cooperation from all stakeholders in maintaining peace and upholding the integrity of the electoral process. He urged residents, political parties, and candidates to comply with the imposed restrictions and cooperate with authorities to ensure a fair and orderly election.
Senior Superintendent of Police Ramban has been tasked with ensuring the strict enforcement of the order.
These measures are implemented amidst heightened anticipation for the electoral process and underscore the administration’s commitment to conducting free, fair, and transparent elections in the region. With the collaboration of all involved parties, Ramban aims to set a benchmark of democratic excellence in the upcoming General Election.
