JAMMU, Jan 10: Unrelenting Dry Cold Tightens Grip on Jammu and Kashmir with Dense Fog Impacting Daily Life, As the Valley experiences no relief from the biting cold, an intense dry cold spell continues to dominate, significantly affecting life in Jammu on Wednesday due to dense fog. The Meteorological Department has forecast generally dry weather in J&K until January 26. On Wednesday, the minimum temperature dropped to minus 5 degrees Celsius in both Srinagar and Gulmarg, while Pahalgam recorded a chilling minus 6.3 degrees. In the Ladakh region, Leh town experienced a bone-chilling minus 15.2 degrees, and Kargil recorded minus 13.9 degrees as the minimum temperature. Jammu city observed a night low of 4.8 degrees, Katra 5.7 degrees, Batote 2.2 degrees, Bhaderwah minus 0.2 degrees, and Banihal minus 1.4 degrees. The ongoing severe winter period, known as the ‘Chillai Kalan,’ lasting 40 days, commenced on December 21 and will persist until January 30.
