SRINAGAR, Dec 8: In a significant development, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) has assumed control of the investigation into the tragic killing of Jammu and Kashmir Police inspector Masroor Ahmad Wani. The officer, shot by a Lashkar-e-Taiba terrorist while playing cricket in Srinagar in October, succumbed to his injuries at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in Delhi on Thursday. Additional Director General of Police (Law and Order) Vijay Kumar stated that the NIA, in collaboration with JK Police, will conduct a joint investigation. While maintaining the confidentiality of ongoing inquiries, Kumar assured that those responsible for the attack would be brought to justice. He emphasized the importance of enforcing standard operating procedures for police personnel to ensure public safety and address deficiencies in security protocols. The move reflects a commitment to a holistic approach, combining kinetic and non-kinetic operations, to counteract security threats and maintain law and order.
