Marked Increase in Minimum Temperatures Across Most Locations in Kashmir

Srinagar, Nov 27: Witnessing a notable improvement, the minimum temperature in most places across Kashmir provided relief from the intense cold conditions, even as a thick layer of fog blanketed the valley, as per officials on Monday.

Gulmarg, the ski resort in north Kashmir, was the sole weather station in the valley where the minimum temperature settled below freezing at minus 1.2 degrees Celsius. Srinagar, the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir, recorded a minimum of 3.5 degrees Celsius, an increase from zero degrees Celsius the previous night.

Officials reported that Qazigund, the gateway town to the valley in south Kashmir, saw the minimum settle at 2.6 degrees Celsius, while Kokernag town registered a low of 2.8 degrees Celsius. Pahalgam, the tourist destination in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district, recorded a low of 1.5 degrees Celsius. Meanwhile, the minimum temperature in Kupwara town in north Kashmir settled at a low of minus 1.8 degrees Celsius.

On Monday morning, a dense layer of fog enveloped the valley; however, it did not significantly impact air traffic at the Srinagar airport. The Meteorological Office has forecasted that shallow to moderate fog is likely to persist until Tuesday at many places in Kashmir.

The weather is expected to be generally cloudy across most places in Jammu and Kashmir, with the likelihood of light rain or snow at isolated places until Tuesday. From Wednesday onwards, there are prospects of light to moderate rain or snow at fairly widespread places, with the possibility of thunderstorms or lightning at a few locations over the next two days.
