NEW DELHI, October 16: Approximately 11,000 vehicles used by the Central Armed Police Forces, including the BSF, CRPF, and CISF, are slated for scrapping in accordance with a central government policy aimed at retiring vehicles older than 15 years, as confirmed by officials.
The Ministry of Home Affairs has also called upon all state governments and Union Territory administrations to take the necessary measures for scrapping outdated operational vehicles utilized by state police organizations, with a focus on replacing them with more technologically advanced and fuel-efficient alternatives.
Officials reported that the Ministry of Home Affairs is actively pursuing the scrapping of vehicles older than 15 years in line with the ‘Vehicle Scrapping Policy’ established by the Government of India. In this endeavor, around 11,000 vehicles operated by the Central Armed Police Forces have been identified as exceeding the 15-year threshold and will be phased out.
The Central Armed Police Forces encompass organizations like the BSF, CRPF, CISF, ITBP, SSB, NSG, and the Assam Rifles. According to estimates from the Ministry of Home Affairs, these CAPFs collectively operate more than 1 lakh vehicles across various regions in the country, serving a multitude of roles and responsibilities.
