SRINAGAR: In Srinagar, a significant number of teachers and other school staff members have gone without their salaries for more than a month. The cause of this hardship is attributed to the absence of Drawing and Disbursing Officers (DDOs) or the failure to delegate financial powers to eligible personnel in various educational institutions within the region.
Teachers have expressed their frustration, stating that their salaries for the previous month remain unreleased because authorities have not appointed a full-fledged DDO or empowered eligible individuals to handle financial matters. This ongoing situation has placed considerable financial strain on these educators and support staff.
The affected individuals have taken steps to address the issue, sending a formal communication to the Principal Secretary of the Government, School Education Department, Civil Secretariat. This communication is documented under reference number DSEK/Estt/Gaz/812, dated September 11, 2023. Regrettably, there has been no discernible action taken thus far, and teachers and allied staff members continue to endure financial difficulties.
In a plea to the authorities, the affected school staff members have called for immediate attention to this matter, urging that their suffering be alleviated without further delay.
Efforts to obtain comments from the Principal Secretary to the Government, the School Education Department, were unsuccessful at the time of reporting.
