In two deeply unfortunate incidents in Jammu and Kashmir, a soldier lost his life due to electrocution in Samba, while a Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) jawan tragically took his own life in Banihal.
In Samba district, an Army personnel identified as Deepak Pandey (25), belonging to the engineering squadron, was electrocuted while working on a project late Sunday night. The unfortunate incident occurred when he came in contact with a live wire inside a camp. Despite being rushed to the military hospital, the soldier, originally from Uttarakhand, could not be saved, and he succumbed to his injuries.
Local authorities have initiated inquest proceedings to investigate the circumstances surrounding the soldier’s electrocution. Following the completion of legal formalities, the deceased’s body will be transported to his hometown for the last rites.
Meanwhile, in Banihal district, a CRPF jawan, Bashit Narayan Yadav, who hailed from Bihar, reportedly took his own life by shooting himself with his service rifle. The incident unfolded around 11.45 pm on Saturday while Yadav was on duty near the Banihal-Qazigund Tunnel along the Jammu-Srinagar national highway.
The motives behind the CRPF jawan’s decision to take such a drastic step remain unclear as of now. His body has been shifted to the sub-district hospital in Banihal for postmortem and other necessary legal procedures.
Additionally, in a separate incident in Rajouri district, a police personnel sustained an injury due to an accidental discharge of his service rifle during an operation. The incident occurred during a routine operation task in the Gundha Khawas area. In response to the unexpected gunshot, some village defense guards fired a few aerial rounds. The injured jawan has been promptly evacuated to a hospital for medical treatment.
These tragic events serve as a somber reminder of the challenges and risks faced by our armed forces and law enforcement personnel while diligently performing their duties.
