President Murmu Emphasizes: Ensuring a Dignified Life for Persons with Disabilities is a Collective Responsibility of Society

New Delhi, Aug 3: President Droupadi Murmu emphasized the collective responsibility of society in providing a dignified life to persons with disabilities during the golden jubilee celebrations of the National Federation of the Blind in New Delhi on Thursday. She stressed the importance of ensuring proper education, employment opportunities, accessible public places, and overall safety for people with disabilities. In Indian culture, disability has never been seen as a hindrance to acquiring knowledge and achieving excellence, as exemplified by figures like Rishi Ashtavakra and blind poet Surdas.

President Murmu commended the National Federation of the Blind for its significant role in improving the lives of visually impaired individuals over the past 50 years. She acknowledged their efforts in raising awareness about the challenges faced by the visually impaired and promoting inclusivity in society. The government is continuously working to empower persons with disabilities through various initiatives, and President Murmu expressed confidence in the federation’s collaboration with the government and society to achieve the goal of overall development and empowerment for visually impaired individuals.
