PM Modi Highlights India’s Leading Role in Biodiversity Conservation at G20 Environment Meet

Chennai, Jul 28 : Prime Minister Narendra Modi, addressing the G20 Environment and Climate Sustainability Ministerial Meeting via video conferencing, emphasized India’s proactive approach towards biodiversity conservation, protection, restoration, and enrichment. He proudly stated that India has surpassed expectations by achieving its installed electric capacity from non-fossil fuel sources nine years ahead of the 2030 target. Furthermore, the country has raised its ambitions with updated targets, positioning India among the top five nations globally in terms of installed renewable energy capacity.

PM Modi also highlighted India’s commitment to preserving wildlife and natural ecosystems. The recent launch of the “International Big Cat Alliance” is a testament to India’s dedication to safeguarding the planet’s seven big cat species, building on the success of the pioneering conservation initiative, Project Tiger. Today, 70% of the world’s tigers can be found in India, reflecting the effectiveness of Project Tiger.

In addition to these initiatives, India is actively engaged in working on Project Lion and Project Dolphin, further showcasing its resolve to protect and conserve the country’s rich biodiversity.

The G20 Environment and Climate Sustainability Ministerial Meeting provided a platform for PM Modi to showcase India’s achievements and commitments in addressing environmental challenges, contributing to the global efforts towards a sustainable and greener future.
