LG Sinha Expresses Delight at Muharram Procession in Srinagar After 35 Years

Srinagar, July 27: Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir, Manoj Sinha, expressed immense joy on Thursday as the Muharram-08 procession made its way through the streets of Srinagar after a gap of three decades. “Happy to see the Muharram procession going on through roads of Srinagar after 35 yrs,” said Sinha.

After more than thirty years, the authorities granted permission for the 8th Muharram procession to proceed along its traditional route in the Kashmiri capital, Srinagar. The administration allowed a two-hour window, from 6 am to 8 am, for the procession to take place.

Thousands of mourners participated in the procession as it commenced from the traditional route of Shaheed Gunj to Dalgate, a route that had been restricted for processions due to the prevailing law-and-order situation since 1989.

The resumption of the Muharram procession through its traditional route marks a significant moment for the devotees and the community, reflecting a positive development in the region.
