Paris, Jul 14: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been awarded France’s highest honor, the Grand Cross of the Legion of Honour, by French President Emmanuel Macron during his two-day visit to Paris. The red-carpet welcome for Prime Minister Modi included his participation as the Guest of Honour in the French National Day celebrations. The award ceremony took place at the Elysee Palace, and the Ministry of External Affairs shared photographs on social media, expressing gratitude for the prestigious recognition.
During the visit, President Macron and First Lady Brigitte Macron hosted a private dinner for Prime Minister Modi at the Elysee Palace. He also announced the agreement for the use of UPI (Unified Payments Interface) in France, opening up new opportunities for Indian cashless payment innovation in the country.
Furthermore, Modi revealed plans to establish a new Indian consulate in Marseille and announced extended post-study work visas for Indian students pursuing master’s degrees in France. He expressed appreciation for France’s support to India and underscored the enduring 25-year strategic partnership between the two nations. Modi encouraged the diaspora to invest in India, highlighting the country’s attractiveness as an investment destination and its significant developmental progress.
