Reasi, June 24: Democratic Progressive Azad Party (DPAP) on Saturday held protest demonstrations at Reasi against what it called record breaking price hike and to press for restoration of the original quota of ration and kerosene oil to consumers. Protestors led by DPAP General Secretary R.S. Chib and Provincial President Jugal Kishore Sharma expressed concern against soaring prices of essential commodities, petroleum products, rising unemployment, saying that “it has shattered the poor man.” “The authorities have cut down the monthly ration quota to consumers in J&K, supply of kerosene oil to consumers has disappeared, price hike and unemployment is breaking all records,” they said. Protestors demanded restoration of monthly ration quota to consumers and roll back of imposition of property tax and other “anti-people” decisions. They also demanded for the assessment of the damage in earthquake hit areas and adequate compensation to the victims of Chenab valley. Later, DPAP leaders also presented the memorandum of demands to Deputy Commissioner Reasi. The memorandum contained all the demands for which DPAP has been holding peaceful protest rallies for the past several weeks. On the instructions of its Chairman Ghulam Nabi Azad, DPAP has held several rallies, protests and public outreach programmes in past weeks. Public outreach programmes, as per DPAP, are aimed at having first-hand accounts of public issues.
