Pune, June 22: Prime Minister Narendra Modi suggested that G20 nations should engage in global skill mapping, identify gaps, and take a lead in promoting research and innovation. Speaking at the G20 Education Ministers’ meeting in Pune via a virtual address, PM Modi emphasized the importance of striking a balance between the opportunities and challenges posed by technology.
The meeting marked the culmination of extensive deliberations within the education working group track, with the G20 ministers formally accepting outcome documents. These documents will serve as a roadmap for coordinated actions aimed at ensuring inclusive and high-quality education for all learners.
PM Modi highlighted the role of digital technology as an equalizer and a force multiplier for increasing access to education. He also acknowledged the potential of artificial intelligence in learning, skilling, and education while emphasizing the need to address the challenges it presents.
The Education Working Group focused on finding inclusive solutions and collective actions in four priority areas: foundational literacy and numeracy, inclusive and qualitative tech-enabled learning, capacity-building and lifelong learning in the context of future work, and research and innovation through enhanced collaboration and partnerships.
PM Modi urged G20 countries to play a pivotal role in promoting research and innovation, particularly among the global south. He called for increased research collaborations and emphasized the significance of the meeting for the future of children and youth.
The prime minister expressed his satisfaction with the identification of transition, digital transformation, and women empowerment as accelerators for achieving Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). He expressed confidence in the group’s ability to develop an inclusive, action-oriented, and future-ready education agenda, benefitting the world in the true spirit of Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam.
