Ban Imposed on Samosa, Jalebi, Pizza, Burger, and Other Food Items During Amarnath Yatra

Kashmir, June 12 : In an effort to promote healthy eating habits, the Shri Amarnathji Shrine Board (SASB) has prohibited the serving of junk and unhealthy food to pilgrims during this year’s Amarnath Yatra in the Himalayas. The 62-day pilgrimage is set to commence on July 1, with over 120 langars (community kitchens) being established along the Pahalgam and Baltal routes leading to the cave shrine. SASB officials have released a list of banned and permitted food items, emphasizing the exclusion of fried foods, fast foods, cold drinks, sweets, and snacks high in fat and salt content. Non-vegetarian foods, alcohol, tobacco, and other intoxicants are also prohibited. The permitted menu includes nutritious options such as cereals, pulses, green vegetables, fruits, rice, herbal tea, and low-fat curd. Additionally, the Director of Health Services in Jammu and Kashmir has instructed officials not to approve leave applications for doctors and paramedical staff during the yatra period.
