New Delhi, May 23: India recorded 405 fresh coronavirus infections, as the number of active cases dropped from 7,623 to 7,104, according to the latest data updated by the Union Health Ministry on Tuesday.

The death toll has reached 5,31,843, with four new fatalities, including one reconciled case from Kerala, as stated in the 8 am update.

The total Covid case tally stands at 4.49 crore (4,49,87,339). Active cases now constitute a mere 0.02 percent of the total infections, while the national COVID-19 recovery rate remains high at 98.80 percent, as per the ministry.

The number of individuals who have successfully recovered from the disease surged to 4,44,48,392, with a case fatality rate of 1.18 percent.

According to the ministry’s website, the nationwide vaccination drive has administered a staggering 220.66 crore doses of the Covid vaccine to date.
