Srinagar, May 20: The meteorological department has predicted mainly dry weather in Jammu and Kashmir for the next few days, with widespread rains anticipated from May 23 onwards. Despite a slight rise in night temperatures, the region continues to experience temperatures below normal for this time of year.
According to a meteorological department official, Srinagar recorded a low of 9.7°C, which is 1.7°C below the seasonal average. Similarly, Qazigund recorded a low of 7.6°C, 2.6°C below normal, while Pahalgam registered a low of 3.6°C, 2.3°C below normal. Kupwara and Kokernag reported lows of 8.3°C and 8.3°C, respectively, both below the average. Gulmarg, the renowned skiing resort, recorded a low of 4.8°C, 2.0°C below normal.
In Jammu, the winter capital, the temperature settled at 22.6°C, which is 1.5°C below the usual nighttime temperature. Other areas such as Banihal, Batote, Katra, and Bhaderwah also experienced temperatures below normal.
Looking ahead, the weather is expected to remain mainly clear until May 22, with a possibility of brief rain or thunderstorms in some areas during the late afternoon and evening hours. However, from May 23 to 25, the meteorological department predicts widespread light to moderate rain, accompanied by thunder, lightning, and the potential for hailstorms and gusty winds in certain locations.
