India Reports 1,690 New COVID-19 Cases in 24 Hours; Active Cases Dip Below 20,000

New Delhi, May 11: India witnessed a daily increase of 1,690 fresh Covid infections, contributing to a decline in the number of active cases, which now stands at 19,613 compared to the previous day’s count of 21,406, according to data released by the Union Health Ministry on Thursday. The total number of COVID-19 cases in the country has reached 4.49 crore (4,49,76,599).

With an additional 12 fatalities, the death toll has risen to 5,31,736, including reconciled numbers from Kerala, as per the 8 am update. The active cases currently account for 0.04 percent of the total infections, totaling 19,613.

The national COVID-19 recovery rate has reached 98.77 percent, with 4,44,25,250 individuals having successfully recovered from the disease. The case fatality rate stands at 1.18 percent.

The health ministry’s website reports that a total of 220.66 crore doses of COVID-19 vaccines have been administered thus far as part of the nationwide vaccination campaign.
