April, 25, 2023: On April 26th, 1961, Maharaja Hari Singh, the last ruler of Jammu and Kashmir, passed away and His legacy as the ruler who signed the Instrument of Accession with India in 1947 will always be remembered in the history of India and Jammu and Kashmir, said Rajan Singh Happy, President, Yuva Rajput Sabha during a press conference organized at press club Jammu. He said that apart from being a great human being, Maharaja was a patriot and always had compassion for his subjects.
Rajinder Singh, Chief Patron, YRS said that Maharaja Hari Singh was born on September 23, 1895, in Jammu and was educated at Mayo College in Ajmer, India. He ascended the throne of Jammu and Kashmir in 1925. During his reign, he introduced several reforms, including the establishment of the Jammu and Kashmir Bank and the first university in the state. Describing Maharaja Hari Singh as a reformer, Rajinder Singh said that he did many welfare works during his tenure. Maharaja Hari Singh was the last and most popular Dogra ruler in Jammu and Kashmir. He played an important role in the merger of Jammu and Kashmir with India, for which Jammu and Kashmir will always be indebted to him.
Raghubir Singh, Chairman, YRS said that in 1947, India gained independence from British rule, and Maharaja Hari Singh was given the choice to accede to either India or Pakistan. In October 1947, Maharaja Hari Singh signed the Instrument of Accession with India, which brought Jammu and Kashmir under Indian administration. Maharaja Hari Singh’s contribution to the modernization of Jammu and Kashmir and his role in the state’s accession to India will always be remembered. He said that after signing the instrument of accession with India, Hari Singh was forced to leave Jammu and Kashmir which made him spend his last years in Bombay.
Replying to the questions of media persons about the recent controversy within the Yuva Rajput Sabha state body and core committee, Rajan Singh Happy, President, YRS clarified and said that there was an unsuccessful attempt from some corners to break the unity of the Yuva Rajput Sabha to gain control on it but I proudly say that they badly failed in it. He said that Yuva Rajput Sabha was united, is united and will remain united.
YRS members told media persons that on the occasion of death anniversary of Maharaja Hari Singh ji, Yuva Rajput Sabha has decided to organize a program tomorrow i.e., 26th of April, 2023 at Maharaja Hari Singh Park to pay tribute to Maharaja Hari Singh ji and shall remember his contribution to the history of India and Jammu and Kashmir.
Meanwhile, members of the core committee of Yuva Rajput Sabha said the process of selecting new President of YRS is going on and as soon as the said process is completed, the new President for the Sabha shall be announced immediately.
