Srinagar, J&K Experiences Season’s Coldest Night, Registering a Chilling Minus 5.3 Degrees

Srinagar, December 13: Srinagar experienced the coldest night of the season with a minimum temperature of minus 5.3 degrees Celsius on Wednesday, according to the Meteorological (MeT) Department. The chill extended to other regions, with Gulmarg recording minus 5.5 and Pahalgam registering minus 5.3 as the minimum temperature.

The cold wave persisted in the Ladakh region, with Leh town recording minus 12.2, Kargil minus 9.6, and Drass minus 10.9 as the minimum temperature for the day. In the Jammu region, the temperatures were relatively milder, with Jammu at 7.3, Katra at 6.6, Batote at 1.7, Bhaderwah at minus 0.2, and Banihal at minus 1.2 as the minimum temperatures.

As the harsh winter cold sets in, the 40-day period known locally as ‘Chillai Kalan’ begins each year on December 21 and concludes on January 30.
